The Redhouse presents: [sic] by Melissa James Gibs
Innovative Theatre; Twisted Comedy. [sic] opens April 1st at the Redhouse

Redhouse presents [sic] a fragmented comedy celebrating the insanity of friendship by Melissa James Gibson. Running April 1st through April 9th, [sic] explores the relationship of three neighbors as they struggle to survive in the big city.  Between love affairs, writer’s block, tongue twisters and a corpse, these off-the-wall characters embrace the fun in their dysfunction, illuminating the [sic] in us all.

Redhouse is thrilled to introduce New York City Director, Anton Briones and Scenic/Projection Designer, Tim Brown to the Syracuse theatre scene. In this production, the creative team will be pushing the envelope by exploring new ways to use video, music and theatricality to bring this contemporary play to life. In his professional directorial debut, Anton Briones will be infusing musicality into this language intensive piece by utilizing his 20+ year career as an actor/singer/dancer.  Career highlights include solo performances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic, 14 National and International tours, and several Off-Broadway productions.  “Creating a sense of whimsy and enchantment…the man of all scenes is played with great talent and a lovely singing voice by Anton Briones. When onstage, he is entirely at home.”- NY Theatre.com. Timothy Brown, an MFA recipient from the Yale School of Drama, most recently worked on the Broadway production of Driving Miss Daisy with James Earl Jones and Vanessa Redgrave. His scenic design of The Master Builder at Yale Repertory Theatre received a Connecticut Critics Circle Award Nomination, was featured in American Theatre Magazine, as well as the 2011 Prague Quadrennial, an international showcase of theatrical designs.“Timothy Brown’s inspired scenic design is as big a star as any of the actors” – The New York Times.

The cast includes John Bixler*, Laura Austin*, and Binaifer Dabu who recently appeared in Odysseus DOA at Redhouse and will reprise their roles Off-Broadway on Theatre Row in NYC. Also featured in the cast are Matt Chiorini*, Navroz Dabu, and Mary Ellen Dowling. Redhouse Technical Director, John Czajkowski completes the creative team.  *denotes member of Actor’s Equity Association.

[sic] was originally commissioned by Steppenwolf Theatre Company and premiered at Soho Rep under the direction of Daniel Aukin. Gibson describes the title, [sic] as a latin term that appears in writing to signify to the reader that an apparent mistake is in fact an accurate citation. “This notion of distancing oneself from responsibility informs the three main characters of the play, who exist at arm’s length from their own situations, as if their real lives have yet to be inhabited.”
